Nabirye Zakia

I am Nabirye Zakia aged 24 years old and a mother of one Child, a resident of Namavundu village in Bageya parish-Buyende Town council. I joined Kyebajjatobona youth farmers group after attending parish sensitization meeting on A working project by Volunteer Efforts for Development Concerns.

Upon attaining membership in Kyebajjatobona youth group, I received trainings on VSLA methodologies from the parish Community Based Trainer from which I expanded my savings through loans extended across the group members. During the first cycle group sharing in December 2021, I received UGX.92,000. The money enabled me to construct a temporary stall and trade in horticultural vegetables including cabbages, tomatoes, onions and silver fish. Through my business, I am able to earn an average of UGX.15, 000 per day compared to the previous UGX.1200 earned after sale of seasonal crops like maize and cassava. I feel very passionate about my business because of a guaranteed source of weekly savings besides keeping my children in school and increased ability to meet household expenditure that included buying cooking oil, food, clothing and improving shelter. The rewards of my business have enabled me to reduce dependence on my husband in sustaining house hold expenditure.
