VEDCO in partnership with Oxfam Uganda are implementing a three year project that aims at empowering Local and National Humanitarian actors in Uganda specifically targeting the districts of Kotido and Kaabong in Karamoja Sub Region, Arua and Koboko in West Nile Sub Region and Lamwo and Agago in Acholi Sub Region.

 According to Steven Bwayo, project coordinator, the project was initiated with a vision to enable capable Local and National Humanitarian Actors (LNHA) to play a leading role in humanitarian work and also help address the challenge of limited opportunities, space and voice LNHAs face in the current humanitarian system.

 The three year project themed ‘Empowering Local and National and Humanitarian Actors (ELNHA) ’ is sponsored by IKEA foundation

 

 

VEDCO has been contracted by St.Mary’s Lacor Hospital to fully develop its hospital gardens while empowering the hospital with the technical capacity of further developing, managing, implementing, monitoring, scaling out and evaluating an agricultural project in a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to benefit the intended beneficiaries.

During the three year project, VEDCO will offer technical support to improve the use of the hospital’s land in order to achieve the desired goals. According to VEDCO Executive Director Mr. Henry Nsereko VEDCO shall also put in place a sustainability strategy to enable the hospital gardens generate revenue which will be ploughed back into the project’s activities and also contribute to the hospitals needs away from reliance on the generic income sources. 

St.Mary’sLacor hospital in Gulu is a 482 bed capacity hospital & three peripheral health centre IIIs (Amuru, Opit & Pabbo).The hospital employs 600 staff, serving clients from Northern Uganda Region but also those from as far as South Sudan.
