Volunteer Efforts For Development Concerns (VEDCO) in partnership with Plan International Uganda with support from Netherlands National Office is due to implement a three year project in Lira District. The project is aimed at Gender transformative contract farming for gender equality and household resilience. VEDCO is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified, experienced; dynamic and highly motivated PROJECT COORDINATOR to be part of its team in Lira District.

Title:                            PROJECT COODINATOR

Employment status:       Contract

Report to:                      Programmes Director

Location:                       Lira District        

Job purpose: Responsible for the leadership, Coordination and provision of technical guidance in the implementation of project activities in the region.

 

Key Result Areas:

Duties and Responsibilities:

Take a lead role in the coordination and implementation of project activities as scheduled with the project team.

Provide technical guidance in the development of project activities and identifying strategies to effectively execute project activities in line with VEDCO mandate and strategic plan.

Manage and coordinate human, material and finance resources of the project in line with project guidelines.

Build partners,  staff and beneficiaries capacity about the project and VEDCO systems

Compile activities and financial reports and share them with VEDCO and the donor in line with donor and VEDCO specified period and project documents / requirements.

Provide technical assistance during programme budgeting process and ensure proper management of programme resources in line with organization mandate.

Conduct annual staff performance appraisals in line with VEDCO Human Resource Manual.

Provide guidance to the process of local partners development in accordance to VEDCO work plan.

Actively participate in fundraising initiatives and provide support in writing and review of proposals in line with organizational guidelines.

Carry out any other duty as may be assigned to you by your supervisor.

 

Qualifications, Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge

At least a Bachelors degree in Agriculture, or related fields such as agricultural economics, agribusiness or social science and other development  and environmental oriented fields .

A minimum of 2 years working experience in managing agricultural food security livelihood interventions.

Good knowledge of gender related issues.

Good communication and networking skills and ability to advocate on issues.

Experience in Coordination, Monitoring and Evaluation skills.

Strong mentoring, capacity building & coaching skills.

Strong initiative and self-motivation required, with a commitment to teamwork and effectiveness within a dynamic multi-disciplinary project.

Proven track record that demonstrates leadership skills, project management, budget and resource management experience. 

Critical Competences:

Programme/Project planning and management abilities.

Excellent report writing skills

Ability to initiate and manage significant technical activities.

Good at decision making and problem solving skills

Ability to work effectively in a team consisting of people with different technical backgrounds.

Ability to train staff and beneficiaries

Willingness to work upcountry.

Ability to work with minimum supervision

Demonstrated people management and supervisory skills.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Solid understanding of MS Word, Excel and other computer packages.

Ability to ride a motorcycle.
