Lukwago Joseph, a resident of Kyampisi Sub County in Mukono District Uganda has been a farmer since his youthful days growing crops, especially Bananas. Other crops include Beans, sweet potatoes and maize. He is a member of Anoonya farmers’ group, one of the groups in Mukono district supported by VEDCO. “VEDCO extensionists under Seed-Farmer-Market & Consumer (SeFaMaCo) programme encouraged me to start growing bananas because they are profitable and have high market. They also gave me knowledge about pest and disease control plus other good farming practices in line with Banana growing” he says. Reaping big as a result of growing bananas on 5 acres of land put a smile on Joseph’s face. He sells 30-80 bunches per month, each at 20,000 UGX.This enabled him to increase his income savings and also provide for his family.
